Tankless Descaling

The water that passes through your tankless unit carries minerals, such as calcium. When water is heated, partially dissolved sediments are left behind. These minerals can collect withing the inside component of the tankless water heater, primarily the heat exchanger, and can cause the unit to not run as efficiently as it should and/or overtime cause the unit to overheat.

Descaling is the process of removing these minerals

What’s needed for a descaling?

  • Descaling kit (Pump, Container, Hoses)
  • Descaling/isolation Valves at the unit
  • Shut off valve at the unit
  • White Vinegar or Descaling agent

Steps:

  1. Turn off the water and gas valves into the tankless unit.
  2. Turn off the cold and hot water valves.
  3. Remove the caps from descaling/isolation valve.
  4. Connect one of the hose ends to the pump and other end to the cold side descaling/isolation valve.
  5. Connect the second hose end to the hot side descaling/isolation valve and place the open end into the bucket.
  6. Fill a quarter of the bucket with white vinegar or descaling agent.
  7. Ensure the descaling/isolation valves are in the open position and plug in pump.
  8. The descaling process should be run between 30-45 minutes.
  9. Once completed, disconnect the pump, turn the descaling/isolation valves to the closed position, and remove the hoses.
  10. Turn the main water valve and gas valve to the open position

*After the process is completed, it is highly recommended to flush 10-15 gallons of water through the unit to ensure the descaling agent is fully removed.
